Textiles as a medium for political-social issues
We live in a world where borders between countries and people are becoming blurred, power relations are radically shifting and cultures are mixing. The exhibition ‘Cultural Threads’ presents exceptional work in which contemporary artists use textiles as a powerful tool to represent their ideas on political-social issues. They connect textiles to their own search for origin and identity in an increasingly globalized world. Or they use it to unravel histories and outline new future perspectives. ‘Cultural Threads’ can be seen in the TextielMuseum from November 24, 2018 through May 12, 2019. With works by Eylem Aladogan, Célio Braga, Hana Miletic, Otobong Nkanga, Mary Sibande, Fiona Tan, Jennifer Tee, Aiko Tezuka and Vincent Vulsma.
